9th Anniversary Celebration-June 10, 2008

Join us for our Ninth Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 5-7pm at the Brooklyn Heights Public Library, 280 Cadman Plaza, 2nd Floor, Brooklyn Heights, NY.  Food and refreshments will be served.

Honorees include Mary Ellroy, nationally acclaimed toy inventor and Inductee into our Toy Inventors Hall of Fame.  Before becoming an award-winning inventor of Toys, Mary Ellroy received her MBA from the Boston College School of Management. Her creativity brought her much success in the advertising and media fields, which then inspired her to invent toys and games.  She is currently the President of the Inventors Association of Connecticut.  http://www.gamebird.biz/affiliations.htm

Nancy Morgan, is another Honoree and will be acknowledged for her generous donation  of dolls to the Museum’s toy collection. Born and raised in Brooklyn Heights, Nancy enjoyed  a childhood filled with dolls. Nancy received her first doll from her mother, an original Raggedy Ann in 1938, and has continued to amass an impressive collection ever since.  In the 1950s Nancy began traveling all over the world and began collecting dolls from a variety of nations in their native costumes. Today, Nancy continues to enjoy traveling as well as volunteering.

Community Service Awards, The Gift of Giving: Toy Drives will be awarded to three organizations for their generous and successful Toy Drives benefitting disadvantaged children in our community. These include The Today Show Charitable Foundation, The Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association and the Children of the City.

Toy Road Show

The Doll And Toy Museum Presented The Toy Road Show And Sale on    February 11, 2006 In New York

The Doll and Toy Museum of New York City held the 5th Annual Toy Expo And Cultural Festival on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The show  featured hundreds of one-of-a-kind and limited edition dolls and teddy bears for sale. The event was held at the Social Hall of the Ethical Cultural Society at 2 West 64th Street in New York, across the street from Central Park and conveniently located near Lincoln Center.

Doll, Teddy Bear & Toy Show

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

The Doll, Teddy Bear and Toy Show will be held at the Ethical Culture Society, 2 West 64th Street, NYC, from 10-4pm. The show is open to the general public. There will be dolls, teddy bears and toys for sale, and an exhibition of original toy inventions from participating NYC school students. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children.

Previous Show Report:

February 2004, The museum hosted a sophisticated and boutique style show in collaboration with Toy Industry Association. The show was held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center and was open to the general public. Dolls and teddy bears were for sale for personal collections, museum collections and for retail stores.

The show was created by The Doll and Toy Museum of NYC, in cooperation with the Toy Industry Association, to promote artists of one-of-a-kind, limited edition and some antique dolls and teddy bears. National and international artists, authors and workshop presenters were all showcased. Author Kathryn Witt, Contemporary American Doll Artists & Their Dolls signed books and internationally renowned paper doll designer Tom Tierney was at the show signing copies of his hot off the press new paper dolls.

Ongoing family hands-on activities were sponsored in part by Doll Castle News, NJ. There was also a live young dancer’s ballet performance, courtesy of Creative Arts Studio, NY, a doll doctor and an appraiser. The show was a success and appealed to both men and woman who enjoy luxury items, collectibles, art, decorating and home furnishings.

Artists featured in the show include award winning doll artist Ankie Daanen Doll Art, Netherlands; DP-Modelle/DB-Textil-Germany; Anastassia Koukinova, NY; Xenis Collection, BC; Annies Dollies, NY; artistic leadership artist NEVA Dolls, NJ; 23 Golden Teddy Nominations & 10 awards for winning artist Handmade Treasures, PA; Bears of the Abbey, Ontario; and Bearied Treasures by Dolores, PA. Award of excellence winner Original Dolls by Goldie, MD; De Poppenstee, Netherlands; Expressions of Color, MD; World of Miniature Bears, FL; My World of Babies, PA and Originals by Cheryl & Deanna, CA were all exhibitors at the show.

Fairy Tale High Tea

The museum hosts two annual Fairy Tale Teas as fundraisers for the Museum. Spend a delightful afternoon with the Fairy Tale Friends of the Museum. Lots of dolls are raffled, guest speakers, lots of delicious food and fun.

The next tea will be held on May 20.
